Pet Microchipping is as Easy as 1-2-3!

1. What is a microchip?

A microchip is about the size of a grain of rice and placed between your dog’s or cat’s shoulder blades under a veterinarian’s supervision. Implantation is quick, easy and virtually painless — similar to a vaccine injection — and can be performed during a regular clinic visit.

2. How does a microchip work?

A microchip is not a tracking device. It can only be “turned on” for a few seconds at a time by a handheld microchip scanner that is passed over to read the microchip’s unique encoded number.

3. My pet is microchipped, now what?

The microchip number is the only information stored in your pet’s microchip, so it is very important you immediately enroll your pet’s microchip with your contact information by clicking here or by calling 800-252-7894.  Once enrolled, your pet’s microchip will be linked to your name, telephone numbers, emergency contacts and other vital information in AKC Reunite’s database. Enrollment with AKC Reunite gives you uninterrupted, around-the-clock, lost and found assistance.  Our 24/7 toll-free P.E.T.Line is included with every microchip enrolled with AKC Reunite – with no annual fees or additional fees to speak with a live agent. For additional information and services regarding your AKC/REUNITE microchips  please go to www.akcreunite.org.

Buy Microchips from the ABA

Each microchip comes with a Lifetime Membership, no renewal fees. The $19.95 membership fee has been waived thanks to The American Bullmastiff Association and AKC/REUNITE. Each microchip comes with a form to be filled out and sent to AKC/REUNITE. The form must be completed and returned to AKC/REUNITE so that your information is in the data base. The record keeping of each microchip number is the buyers responsibility. (*Mailing fee is $8.30 per order.)
