American Bullmastiff Association mentors are divided into two categories:
Group 1 mentors are primary presenters at seminars and ringside/individual mentoring sessions who are qualified because they are either breeder/judges or long-established breeders who the committee feels could facilitate at a seminar and have the experience to ringside mentor individuals who may be applying to judge Bullmastiffs. AKC only recognizes ABA parent-club approved mentors as one of their “enriching components” (among other things needed to apply for any specific breed). Prospective judges must have done sufficient stewarding, attend seminars/workshops, have mentors, judge sweeps or matches, attend national or regional specialties, or attend AKC-sponsored institutes. Judges applying for their initial breed need to qualify with so many litters, so many years involvement, and so many champions produced, as well as stewarding, passing anatomy and procedural exams, judging their breed at matches, sweeps, and futurity with sufficient entries.
Group 2 mentors are individuals qualified to work with Group 1 member at seminars and do
individual mentoring to prospective judges and breeders.
